Ashes, ashes...Ashes, Ashes.   
This is where his story ends. On the rooftop of the city’s court house, he burnt himself to ashes. I watched him burn to ash, my own hands scarred by the flames when I tried to put him out. There wasn’t a way to save him though. He’d doused himself in gas, or diesel, or something suitably vicious that water wouldn’t put out until there wasn’t enough left to identify him beyond dental records.   
And all the while, I have to ask why. Why the hell would such a nice guy, who never once thought about suicide to my knowledge, suddenly set himself on fire? The kicker is that he’d ca Ashes, ashes...

Stone--Stone--   
Suspend your disbelief for a moment, if you will.   
 You reach a turning point in an unfamiliar city. You take the road you never would have, and follow it with quick steps. The brick alley, like one ripped straight from a noir film, is smoke laden and poorly lit in the quickly darkening evening with fresh puddles slowly winding their way into the sewers. By chance you notice that the bricks on one side of the alley are oddly shaped from your perspective. Upon closer inspection, they are but an optical illusion, hiding a path which curiosity forces you down.

Collision     For once, I didn’t have anything to say when I bumped into somebody. Speechlessness is not something that comes to me on a regular basis. Of course, normally I’m bumping into pretty girls or friends of mine. Colliding with yourself is an entirely different experience, especially when it’s not really you when it still is you. And no, I’m not talking about a mirror. This was me bumping into me version 2.0, with more smile than you could shake a stick at and probably enough money in his pocket to afford three more of the dress suits he was wearing.

One October Night“Are you magic?”   
She was a princess that night. Young, with beautiful dark skin and black curls adorning her face. Her pink dress and crown had been thrown into a confusion of color by the heavy orange lighting, which had been shining down on him for quite some time. Other ignored it though. She had asked a question of him, and he was obligated to answer it.   
“Yes. Indeed I am.” He smiled happily as she grinned at him. His attire had probably brought that question on, considering he was wearing a red top hat, a green cape, and a black suit beneath with a silk red tie that nicely matched the hat. At One October Night

DI: Pilgrim - 1.1The young monk, Amaden, awakened from his sleep by a voice in his dream, had walked to the temple’s limits and found him barely alive, the fallen lantern slowly burning out at his side.  'Where have you come from?' he thought, gazing beyond him into the darkness of the forest.  There was no answer except the wind.  He gently picked up the unconscious Pilgrim by the arms and placed him on his back, then started up the stone steps, half carrying and half dragging him.  Having walked up these stairs many times before carrying heavy loads, this was not as difficult for him as it seemed.  He brought him out DI: Pilgrim - 1.1

DI: Pilgrim - 1.2-3Walking up the final steps from the outside of the temple, the pilgrim stopped for a moment to catch his balance after a cold gush of wind had almost knocked him over.  Looking over his shoulder he could see the valleys stretching out for miles on both sides, the dead woods spread out as far as the eye could see… not a sign of life except the temple and the oasis garden surrounding it, and the crooked path – barely noticeable even in broad day light – that slithered up the side of a far off mountain.    And then, as he put his foot on the third to last step, there was silence.  He looked up, and the sun no l DI: Pilgrim - 1.2-3

Yeesh. It's been an eternity since I updated this thing, much less got a chance to look at everybody's works. Sorry for that; time just isn't on my side as usual.

As for what I've been up to, some of you may remember that last year I was the best man for a friend of mine's wedding. I just got a chance to go see him this last weekend, and the happy couple is doing fine. So good, in fact, that said buddy's wife is in her second trimester of labor with their first kid! I'd set off a few fireworks in their honor, but they're frowned upon outside the 4th of July. ^^;

Anyway, I'm also 21 now. Holy crap do I feel old every time I see/hear/say that. As horrible as that is though, I guess it affords me some freedoms that I didn't have before. Not that I'll use them, as drinking leaves me feeling horrid after just a few sips (tastes bad to boot) and going into clubs just isn't my style.

School starts soon, but as odd this seems, it means I'll probably be on more often. Strange how that works. I'll also have more time to write as well, and hopefully get published sometime. Getting my food in the door is kinda hard on the published part, but with a little luck and help from on high, I might just do it this time. :)
